Black Opry is a fast growing organization that seeks to create equity and opportunities for Black artists working in the country, Americana, folk, and roots music industries. This music has been made by and loved by Black people since its conception.

For just as long, they have been overlooked and disregarded. Black Opry wants to change that. We see a more inclusive version of these genres that includes Black artists, fans, and executives within the industry.

GRAMMY & Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Rhiannon Giddens developed the Biscuits & Banjos Foundation with a goal to envision a world where the full story of American music, literature, food, and culture is told, and where the communities that created it are resourced, visible, and thriving.

The Once & Future Sounds Fund
The Once & Future Sounds Fund

The Once & Future Sounds Fund works to improve equity in the music industry by elevating artists from historically marginalized and exploited groups. The Fund will launch two signature programs — The Once & Future Laureate Program and the Once & Future Festival — over the next three years. 

Unmanageable Giving Circle
Unmanageable Giving Circle

Launched in 2021, the Unmanageable Giving Circle provides relief for artists in order to advance their art-making. Every dollar donated goes directly to artists. No overhead, no strings attached. The Unmanageable Giving Circle’s ongoing fundraising efforts have yielded more than $300,000 in direct individual support and mutual aid for artist mothers. During the spring of 2026, the Unmanageable Giving Circle launched a Mutual Aid Fund.

Created by artist, producer & actor Amber Rubarth, Cover Crop is an episodic video series bringing music performances to farms across North America with the aim of creating more generosity, connection, and sustainability through food, community, and music. Cover Crop is also a visual celebration and exploration of the passions and hardships of small scale sustainable farms throughout North America. In the spirit of reciprocity, Rubarth offers music, often featuring other guest musicians, as her way of feeding back into the environment that nourishes her.

Stay Righteously Unmanageable is a series of monthly zoom convenings for artist-activists and cultural organizers facilitated by Je Naè Taylor (cultural organizer at Highlander Center & founder of Taylor Space). These monthly virtual meetings allow space to build community, create strategies out of rage, and discuss your role in movement as an artist in this time.
