The Biscuits & Banjos Foundation celebrates the African diaspora’s role in shaping American identity and culture through music, literature, food, and community.

GRAMMY & Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Rhiannon Giddens developed the Biscuits & Banjos Foundation with a goal to envision a world where the full story of American music, literature, food, and culture is told, and where the communities that created it are resourced, visible, and thriving.

The Once & Future Sounds Fund works to improve equity in the music industry by elevating artists from historically marginalized and exploited groups. The Fund will launch two signature programs — The Once & Future Laureate Program and the Once & Future Festival — over the next three years. 

Launched in 2021, the Unmanageable Giving Circle provides relief for artists in order to advance their art-making. Every dollar donated goes directly to artists. No overhead, no strings attached. The Unmanageable Giving Circle’s ongoing fundraising efforts have yielded more than $300,000 in direct individual support and mutual aid for artist mothers. During the spring of 2026, the Unmanageable Giving Circle launched a Mutual Aid Fund.

Created by artist, producer & actor Amber Rubarth, Cover Crop is an episodic video series bringing music performances to farms across North America with the aim of creating more generosity, connection, and sustainability through food, community, and music. Cover Crop is also a visual celebration and exploration of the passions and hardships of small scale sustainable farms throughout North America. In the spirit of reciprocity, Rubarth offers music, often featuring other guest musicians, as her way of feeding back into the environment that nourishes her.  

We Are North Nashville is a two-year multimedia storytelling project. Led by artist, author, activist, and community organizer M. Simone Boyd, with the support of Andrea Tudhope and Steve Haruch, the project has a goal to gather, document, and share wisdom and sacred knowledge from North Nashville community elders to fortify us for the uncertain future ahead. The project will also redistribute wealth via resources raised for the project to community members.

Your Song, founded by songwriter and music therapist Kyshona Armstrong, is a collaborative songwriting program that connects performing arts centers, musicians, and artists with vulnerable communities to promote healing and community connectedness.

Unmanageable is the Fiscal Sponsor and Co-Producer of the annual Rancho La Puerta Artist Retreat and Folk Festival in Tecate, Mexico, which includes a wealth of collaborative concerts, artists talks, and spontaneous performances, sharing the power of folk music traditions while focusing on diversity, collaboration and the dissolution of boundaries through creative exchange. Along with Producer, artist and visionary, Amber Rubarth, we are honored to share the beauty and healing power of the Ranch with retreat artists. 

Unmanageable is proud to be a producing partner, alongside Founding Artistic Director Leyla McCalla, of a series of multidisciplinary conversations presented by The Shockoe Institute, a new national organization headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, dedicated to revealing the enduring impact of racial slavery on our shared American experience.
